The Eating Disorders Association (N.I.) provide a Helpline Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm to support those affected by an eating disorder.

Eating disorders are extremely destructive, debilitating and intrusive illnesses and when a person is struggling and in the grips of an eating disorder, it affects them twenty four hours a day, seven days a week. This helpline acts as a lifeline to many individuals, especially when they feel they have nowhere else to turn. We recognise that reaching out for support can be extremely difficult and can take time for the person to feel ready to lift the phone. For someone personally struggling with the illness or for a parent/carer supporting a loved one with the illness, reaching out for support and acknowledging that there is a problem can provoke an array of extremely difficult emotions. We provide a Helpline Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm in an attempt to allow the individual the option of being able to ring, at the moment when they feel that they are ready to reach out. This is important due to the nature and indeed the ambivalence about seeking help associated with the illness. The ‘moment’ whereby the person decides that they want to reach out for support may pass just as quickly as it arrives. We aim to be a non-judgemental, open and empathetic listening ear for those who have built up the courage to ring for support, at any time.

This is a highly valued service that has grown steadily from its launch in 1992, and continues to provide a vital service for those battling an eating disorder, carers and professionals alike.

Last year over 3500 people contacted EDA(N.I.) via the Helpline and we endeavour to ensure that we can support as many individuals as possible during their time of need. We aim to answer all calls and provide support around the clock, however if we are unable to answer a call for any reason we encourage you to please leave a message and one of our team will call you back as soon as possible.

If you would like support please call now on 028 90 235959
